Jane Austen Jane Austen (1775-1817) provided the novels that have served for some of the more elegant period pieces of cinema. Pride and Prejudice has been told and retold countless time. Emma? Provincial towns where the middle-class were looking to move up as the upper crust were not going to step down a notch without a fight.
